Mouro wins 2014 Group 3 TAB Rewards Stakes

Mouro made a profitable stop in Melbourne on his way north when he claimed Saturday’s Group III TAB Rewards Stakes (1400m) in strong fashion at Flemington.
The Tony McEvoy-trained import arrived in Melbourne to compete in the $120,000 contest on Friday morning but the trainer’s representative Jason Robinson said Mouro would head to Sydney soon after his Flemington success to prepare for the rich autumn carnival.
“He’ll head up to Sydney tomorrow night and wake up there Monday morning,” Robinson said.
Mouro paraded well despite the TAB Rewards Stakes being his first outing since his win in the Group III Eclipse Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield in November last year before living up to his looks on the track.
Jockey Craig Williams gave Mouro a comfortable passage before the son of Grand Slam dashed clear at the 300 metres and looked set to score by a wide margin.
“The horse has been fantastic at home. He was nice and fresh for today and he has never let us down in any runs,” Robinson said. “First-up suited him perfectly and it was a great ride from Craig (Williams).
“I thought he presented fantastic today but there’s more to come. He’ll take great improvement from that run.”
