Two in a week for Nick Ryan Racing

A week after a terrific 2nd placing from Mahamedeis in the Group 2 Feehan Stakes at Moonee Valley (1600m) Express Pass has run 3rd in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes at Flemington (1200m) on Saturday.

Still learning his craft Express Pass was wayward early, wanting to lay in behind Sebrakate, but really knuckled down inside the last furlong to hit the line strongly and leave trainer Nick Ryan beaming after only career start number three.

The least experienced runner in a field that included five Group winners, the Wandjina colt did the stable and connections proud with his performance and jockey Ben Melham was full of praise after the race.

“He ran well.”

“He’s a nice horse still learning his craft. When we got onto the course proper I gave him a little click and I actually thought he was going to go on and win the race but he probably got a little bit lost his first time up the straight.”

“He’s a really promising horse with a bright future.”

We’ll next see Express Pass step out in two weeks time at Caulfield in the Group 3 Guineas Prelude (1400m) then all going well it will be back to Caulfield two weeks later for the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).
