Sysmo lands 2013 Seymour Cup
Nick Hall’s brilliant weekend continued when he landed the $150,000 Seymour Cup (1600m) aboard the imported galloper Sysmo.
Hall gave Sysmo time to balance at the back of the field while the race unfolded perfectly for him with a smart pace prevailing up front, courtesy of Alpha Proxima and Cosmic Causeway.
The in-form jockey switched Sysmo ($4.60) to the outside early in the straight before he powered home over the top of his opposition to score a comfortable win over Darley runner Proverb and Lord Wimble.
“We thought there was good speed on paper and it turned out even more so in the run, he got a lovely run in transit and finished the race off nice and strong.
“He’s got a big turn of foot and he’ll be even better over 2000 metres.”
McEvoy said Sysmo would race again during the upcoming Melbourne Cup carnival at Flemington but would return a better horse in 12 months’ time.
“He’s a really progressive young horse,” McEvoy said. “I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him and I personally think he’ll run a mile-and-a-half (2400m).
