Spinning Memories advertises her worth ahead of sale date with Group 3 success

Spinning Memories potentially signed off in style for trainer Pascal Bary, as the mare landed the Group 3 Prix du Palais-Royal at Clairefontaine on Thursday.

The five-year-old is due to be sold next Thursday via the Magic Millions online sale, but should she stay with Bary then she could tackle Group 1 company, with next month’s Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot an option.

Sent off favourite, Spinning Memories was waited with by Christophe Soumillon as the freewheeling Azano established a large lead, but Soumillon did not panic and presented the mare from off the pace to score by a length.

“She did it well given the track is not ideal for her,” said Bary. “She is very good over a straight course or the single turn of the Longchamp 1,400 metres [seven furlongs] but she coped well and really picked up well.”

Spinning Memories has long looked like a mare that could make an impact at Group 1 level but Bary must wait to find out whether he is the one that gets the chance to exploit that potential.

“She is due to be sold Thursday on the Magic Millions website, so I don’t know if I will get to keep her,” he added. “I know her inside out and I would love to still train her.

“I think that, were she to stay with me, the objective would be the Prix Maurice de Gheest. There is also Ascot and the Diamond Jubilee but that will come soon enough so we will have to see.”

Azano made a good impression on his first start since a gelding operation, having been sent by owner/breeder Martin Taylor to join Francis Graffard from John Gosden over the winter.
