Mouro claims 2013 Sale Cup

Trainer Tony McEvoy will consider sending Mouro on another Group One mission following his win in Sunday’s Sale Cup.

McEvoy said the Emirates Stakes (1600m) on November 9 was a possible target but the French import may be more suited to the Group Three Eclipse Stakes at Caulfield a week later.

“The Emirates is stepping up very high but we’ll wait and see,” McEvoy said.

Hall steered Mouro over from a wide barrier to take up a position outside the leader Mutual Trust.

The two fought out the finish with Mouro gaining the ascendancy to win by three-quarters of a length.

McEvoy said Mouro was a versatile horse with a great temperament and was rewarding his owners for their patience.

“These imported horses are long-term projects,” he said.

“They are young, sound horses and Mouro’s owners are happy to be patient.”

Four of Mouro’s five wins have come since he joined McEvoy including the Rowley Mile at Hawkesbury in May when he defeated subsequent Doomben Cup winner Beaten Up and the consistent Speediness.
