Kourkam Likely To Target Panthers Hawkesbury Gold Cup
Locally-based trainer Tony McEvoy has indicated he may target the Group 3 $150,000 Panthers Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m) with recent Albury Cup winner Kourkam.
Kourkam was scratched from Royal Randwick on Saturday due to a bruised heel with the stable now eyeing off the huge Hawkesbury stand-alone Saturday meeting on May 2.
The imported gelding followed a third placing in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington, with an impressive win at Albury when piloted by Kerrin McEvoy.
Hawkesbury Race Club chief executive Brian Fletcher, understandably, is rapt with the early interest in Saturday week’s big meeting with nominations for the program – with no race worth less than $100,000 – not closing until 11am next Monday (27th April).
“The indications are already there that our 10th anniversary meeting is going to be one to savour,” Fletcher said today. “I’m sure our overall nominations will be outstanding once they have closed next Monday.”
