Another Cup for emerging Mahamedeis
Emerging stayer Mahamedeis won his second country cup in a week with a dominant performance in Sunday’s $125,000 TAB Werribee Cup (2000m) at Spendthirft Australia Park.
Caulfield trainer Nick Ryan’s pin-up galloper travelled beautifully under Luke Currie and, when asked for an effort from the 500m, let down with his customary turn of speed to quickly account for his rivals.
The one-and-a-quarter length win over Second Bullet and Another Coldie came seven days after a six length romp in the Traralgon Cup (1950m) for Noel Callow, who was forced to miss Sunday’s race after falling heavily at Sandown earlier in the week.
A $24,000 purchase at the Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale, Mahamedeis has now won six races and more than $500,000 prizemoney and Ryan said the son of Magnus would be given the chance to improve on that record after a short let-up.
